Junior Journalist Scheme

Austin School Supports ‘Junior Journalist Scheme’ for Primary and Secondary Students

Pupils get the opportunity to learn valuable media skills from new school’s spacious premises in Tsim Sha Tsui

Austin School, a new international school offering a quality education to students from years 1-13, is thrilled to be a hosting partner for the ‘Junior Journalist Scheme’, a two-week programme aimed at giving primary and secondary school pupils the skills to produce their own professional news stories and interviews.

As well as utilising Austin School’s extensive classrooms and facilities, teachers from the school also took part in class sessions, sharing their backgrounds in journalism and the media with enthusiastic students.

Pupils, who were recruited from local government and international schools, were able to learn a wide range of skills including journalistic writing, interviewing, filming and editing. As well as Austin School staff, other course consultants and lecturers on the Junior Journalist Scheme include Prof. Wu Min Su, Deputy Head of the Department of Journalism and Communication, Communication University of China, alongside experienced reporters and professionals from the media industry. Students were able to interview a wide range of prominent personalities in the fields of politics, public office, sport, business and entertainment.

The Junior Journalist Scheme was organised by Nexus International Education Sports Culture Foundation and the Federation of HK Jiangsu Community Organisations, with organisational support from China Unicom Global and Federation of Hong Kong Jiangsu Youth as well as Hong Kong New Youth Energy Think Tank; Alibaba Cloud; International Education Research and Development Centre and Hong Kong Putonghua Professional Association.

In addition to Austin School’s input, further support was provided by Hong Kong Federation of Education Workers; Tung Wah Group of Hospitals; Hong Kong Chinese Enterprises Association Youth Committee and HKCT Institute of Higher Education.
