ALL RACES AS ONE: ELIMINATING RACIAL DISCRIMINATION

On 21 March 2023, to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (IDERD), the Equal Opportunities Commission launched the Racially Friendly Campus Recognition Scheme for schools to spread awareness about the importance of racial equality and inclusion among students and staff community. A total of 63 primary and secondary schools have participated in the scheme.
Our AUSTIN SCHOOL was the one of them, organizing an assembly with presentation, poster making competition, discussion, arts/sports activities focusing on why people should not be discriminated against on the grounds of their race.
The children also designed posters with positive messages, and all received the participation certificate on IDERD, 21 March.

What is racism?
Racism is discrimination or prejudice that is directed at someone of a different race, based on the belief that one’s own race is superior to others.
It results in negative behaviour towards individuals or groups of people, often disadvantaging them in many ways.
To understand the learning objectives the key messages which we have shared with the children are as mentioned below: -
* A person’s potential is not determined by race.
* Discrimination will only constrain the person from realizing his/her potential.
* Prejudice and misunderstanding are the root cause of discrimination and harassment.
* Racial discrimination will undermine Hong Kong’s competitive edge as a cosmopolitan city.

We ended up the event by taking an oath.
"YES, TO PEACE NO TO RACISM"
